Attitude is just as important as aptitude

1. It’s really the people that make Centennial 360 awesome.

We hire people who are genuine, honest and kind. We favour attitude over aptitude. We think if you’ve got the right attitude, everything else can be learned.

2. Focus on the customer and all else will follow.

Since the beginning, we’ve focused on customers. Our company was started by a journeyman plumber. Customers asked him if they could buy parts and do their own plumbing, so he set up a shop. Other customers wanted us to come and do their renovations, so we added install and service. Some of those renovations got so big, we joked that it might be easier to just build the house from scratch. Not long after that we started building custom houses in old neighbourhoods. Our business has evolved naturally because we are good listeners.

3. Life makes sense when you help others.

Arnie Shaw, Centennial 360's President, started a culture of helping and we’re keeping it strong. We help our customers, our community and our employees. Helping gives extra meaning to our jobs. We enjoy coming to work everyday and it’s not just for the coffee and cookies. Though they are pretty good.

4. Democracy works.

We don’t have all the answers, but we do hire smart people, so we just ask them. That’s how we developed our mantra – Make Life Awesome. We asked our people to tell us about their work. Turns out, they come to work to make life awesome for our customers.

5. Style is always in.

Centennial 360 has a certain “je ne sais quoi”. That’s French for “I don’t what it is…but, baby, I love it.” Even when we build a utility room we design the best-organized, tidiest, most-inviting, most awesome utility room in the western hemisphere – the kind of utility room that makes you look forward to changing the furnace filter. Like they say, fashion comes and goes, but style is always in. “You know, Minister, I disagree with Dumbledore on many counts…but you cannot deny he’s got style…” J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
